Mabanaft sets up wholesale business in Russia

As part of its international expansion strategy, Mabanaft is setting up a wholesale business with Slavpetrol, which was founded in January 2007.

The Mabanaft subsidiary, under the management of Sergey Avdeenko, is active in the local trading and distribution of petroleum products. Slavpetrol benefits from the long business experience of the Mabanaft Group with Russia. Mabanaft was the first German trading company in the 1950s to import petroleum products from the former Soviet Union. In the 1970s and 80s, the subsidiary imported gasoil, and since the mid-1990s, Mabanaft has been successful in the Russian export business.

Russia has been experiencing an economic revival in the past few years. The country’s energy requirements are rising and with it the demand for petroleum products. Slavpetrol is taking advantage of this business opportunity and focuses on the wholesale distribution of crude oil, gasoil, gasoline and other petroleum products. Slavpetrol pairs its excellent sourcing opportunities from various Russian refineries and producers with its growing network to Russian trading partners. The products are transported via tank cars or pipelines. The business activities are focused on the greater metropolitan areas of Moscow and Saint Petersburg as well as the regions of Ufa, Samara and Volgograd. For the first business year, Slavpetrol is aiming for a target volume of 60,000 tons of petroleum products.

The team in Moscow is always striving to evaluate further business opportunities such as leasing production capacity in Russian refineries (processing) in order to remain a future-oriented market player.
